The Yarbaiwa Charity Foundation has commended Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for resolving the longstanding land dispute in Rimin Zakara, describing the development as a significant step towards ending a conflict that had persisted for about five decades.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the organisation’s Public Relations Officer, Siraj Murtala, the foundation’s founder, Zubaida Abubakar, said Governor Yusuf’s intervention demonstrated the importance of political will and decisive leadership in resolving longstanding community disputes.

The foundation said the Rimin Zakara dispute, which had lingered for about 50 years around the perimeter of Bayero University Kano, had remained a difficult issue requiring careful consideration of both public interest and the concerns of affected residents.
According to Abubakar, Governor Yusuf provided a clear direction by insisting on the protection of public educational infrastructure while ensuring that genuine displaced citizens were treated fairly.
She described the approach as a demonstration of what could be achieved when government combines firmness in protecting public assets with fairness towards citizens affected by development and land-related decisions.

The foundation also commended the Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar Garko, for his role in implementing the governor’s directive on the Rimin Zakara dispute.
Abubakar said the commissioner did not merely rely on officials in his office but personally mobilised technical teams and supervised the demarcation process to ensure that the exercise reflected the governor’s commitment to equity.

The foundation’s PRO, Siraj Murtala, said the organisation considered the resolution of the Rimin Zakara dispute particularly significant because of the length of time the matter had remained unresolved.
Beyond the Rimin Zakara intervention, the foundation also commended Governor Yusuf for what it described as his efforts to improve infrastructure and public services across Kano State.

It cited ongoing interventions in education, road construction and rehabilitation, water supply and other areas as part of the administration’s efforts to address infrastructure deficits and improve living conditions for residents.
The foundation said the developments showed that long-standing challenges could be addressed when political vision was matched with effective implementation.
Abubakar said the resolution of the Rimin Zakara dispute had demonstrated that even conflicts that had persisted for generations could be brought to an end through responsible leadership and a commitment to fairness.
“Kano has shown Nigeria that with a visionary governor and a competent commissioner, no legacy conflict is insurmountable,” she said.
