Residents of Kasuwar Daji, a farming community in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, have again come under attack by suspected bandits, leaving several people dead, others injured and an unspecified number abducted.
The Friday attack has renewed calls for urgent intervention by the Federal Government, with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) expressing concern over what it described as the continued abandonment of rural communities to armed criminals.
In a statement issued by the party’s Zamfara State Publicity Secretary, Kasim Almustapha Kayatawa, the NDC said it received news of the attack “with shock and deep sorrow,” describing it as another indication of the worsening security situation across the state’s border communities.
The party noted that repeated attacks have forced many farmers to abandon their farmlands and disrupted commercial activities in several border local government areas.
Reacting to the incident, the NDC State Chairman, Alhaji Surajo Garba Mai Katako, said the persistent killings, kidnappings and attacks on innocent residents were unacceptable.
“This unfortunate incident is yet another reminder of the fragile security situation in our state. Our people can no longer live in fear,” he said. “The killing, maiming, and kidnapping of innocent citizens is unacceptable.”
The party urged the Zamfara State Government to intensify security patrols, strengthen intelligence gathering and provide greater support to local vigilante groups operating in Kaura Namoda and other vulnerable border communities.
It also called on the Federal Government and security agencies to deploy additional personnel and modern security equipment to Zamfara to decisively tackle banditry and kidnapping.
In addition, the NDC appealed to citizens and traditional leaders to work closely with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence capable of preventing future attacks.
According to the party, safeguarding lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government, stressing that residents should be able to farm, trade and live peacefully without fear of attacks or abductions.

Kaura Namoda Local Government Area shares borders with neighbouring states and the Niger Republic, making it one of the areas frequently targeted by armed groups. Community sources said repeated attacks over the years have displaced many rural residents, forced farmers off their lands and compelled traders to close markets earlier than usual due to security concerns.
The NDC warned that the continued insecurity is worsening food insecurity as farming activities decline and transportation routes become increasingly unsafe.
The party extended its condolences to the families of those killed, the people of Kasuwar Daji and Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, as well as the Zamfara State Government. It prayed for the repose of the victims, speedy recovery for the injured and the safe return of those abducted.
The NDC further reaffirmed its solidarity with affected communities and pledged to continue advocating for peace, justice and responsive governance.
“May Allah restore lasting peace to our state and country,” the statement concluded.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had yet to release an official casualty figure or provide details of any rescue operation. Residents, however, said they remain hopeful that the renewed calls for intervention will lead to stronger security measures before the next market day.
