A Shari’ah Court judge, Mohammed Muktar, narrowly escaped an attack on Wednesday after suspected bandits stormed a courtroom in Gwarjo village, Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The assailants reportedly invaded the court premises around midday, firing sporadically while demanding to know the whereabouts of the judge.
Residents said Mohammed Muktar noticed the approaching gunmen from a distance and escaped through a window moments before they entered the courtroom.
According to one resident, the bandits shot indiscriminately after entering the courtroom and repeatedly asked for the judge. The source said a commercial motorcyclist later helped Mohammed Muktar flee the area before the attackers could reach him.

Another eyewitness said the attackers became angry after discovering the judge had escaped and allegedly threatened to kill him if he returned to preside over court proceedings in the community.
The incident has heightened anxiety among residents of Gwarjo, a community that has experienced repeated bandit attacks in recent years.
Efforts to obtain a response from the Katsina State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, did not respond to calls or text messages seeking comment.
