The 7th Kano Social Influencers Summit (KANSIS 2026) will examine how artificial intelligence (AI) and digital innovation can improve governance, strengthen accountability and expand citizen participation in Nigeria.
Organised by the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), the two-day summit is scheduled for October 21 and 22, 2026, at Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University, Kano, under the theme, “Future of Governance: AI, Innovation, and Citizen Engagement.”
The summit aims to promote discussions on the opportunities and risks associated with deploying AI in public administration, while exploring ways to protect citizens’ rights, address digital inequalities and ensure accountability in the use of emerging technologies.
Hamza Ibrahim, Chair of the Summit’s Media and Publicity Committee, disclosed during a press conference today at CITAD’s Kano Office that, the event had received 1,250 applications from prospective participants, with 40 speakers expected to lead plenary and panel sessions.
KANSIS 2026 to Address AI Risks and Opportunities
According to CITAD, the summit will examine how AI and other digital technologies can support transparent governance, efficient public services, evidence-based decision-making and stronger engagement between citizens and public institutions.
The organisation, however, noted that technological innovation alone could not guarantee improved governance, stressing the importance of transparent decision-making, responsible data management, effective institutions and meaningful public participation.
It said the discussions would also address concerns about privacy, algorithmic bias, misinformation, digital exclusion and the protection of fundamental rights.
The summit is expected to explore how technological development can benefit different segments of society without deepening existing social and digital inequalities.

Participants will include policymakers, academics, researchers, technology experts, civil society organisations, development partners and private sector representatives.
The programme will feature plenary and parallel sessions, interactive discussions, presentations, exhibitions, technology demonstrations, networking opportunities and media engagements.
The Centre expects the summit to generate practical recommendations on the responsible use of AI in Nigeria, increase public understanding of emerging technologies and strengthen collaboration among relevant stakeholders.
CITAD established KANSIS in 2019 as an annual platform for dialogue among policymakers, academics, civil society actors, technology experts and social media influencers on digital technology, governance, social justice, development and citizen participation.
