Residents of Kano State have commended the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, and the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, for suspending the planned Eid Durbar processions by the two rival claimants to the Kano Emirate throne.

The decision followed growing tension surrounding the planned Hawan Daushe processions by His Highness Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and His Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II, which many residents feared could trigger unrest and threaten lives and property across Kano metropolis.

Security experts and concerned citizens had earlier warned that allowing parallel processions by both camps could result in clashes and a breakdown of law and order during the Eid celebrations. However, the intervention of the security authorities to suspend the activities has been widely praised as a timely and patriotic move aimed at preserving peace and public safety.

Speaking on the development, the Chairperson of the Women Lawyers Congress, Barrister Nafisa Abba Isma’eel, described the action of the security agencies as professional and commendable.

“The timely intervention by the Inspector General of Police, the Director-General of the DSS, and the Kano State Commissioner of Police saved Kano from what could have become a major tragedy. Their actions reflected patriotism and genuine concern for the safety of the people,” she said.

Barrister Nafisa also urged Kano residents to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and supportive of lawful measures introduced to maintain stability in the state.

Also reacting, legal practitioner and Chairman of Kano Concern Civil Society Organisation, Barrister Abubakar Musa Tudun Wada, applauded both emirs for complying with the directives of security agencies despite extensive preparations for the Durbar.

“We appreciate His Highness Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero and His Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II for demonstrating maturity and respect for constituted authority. Their decision to suspend the procession has helped in preserving peace and preventing unnecessary tension,” he stated.

He further called on residents to continue supporting security agencies and avoid actions capable of disrupting public peace in Kano State.
