The Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR) has called for strengthened collective efforts to improve the health and well-being of children across Nigeria as the country marks the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Executive Administrator of CHR, Nafisa Shehu Ibrahim, the organisation joined families, communities, and stakeholders in celebrating Nigerian children while reaffirming their importance to the nation’s future.
CHR stated that the health and well-being of children remains one of its key thematic focus areas, noting that it continues to advocate for conditions that allow every child to grow in a safe and supportive environment.
According to the organisation, access to quality healthcare, education, nutrition, and protection is essential for the development of children and the overall progress of society.
The group also emphasized the need for stronger child health services across the country, particularly improved immunization coverage to protect children against preventable diseases.
It further called for targeted efforts toward reaching “zero-dose” children — those who have not received routine immunizations — to ensure they are not excluded from essential healthcare interventions.
CHR urged governments, non-governmental organisations, civil society groups, philanthropists, communities, and families to sustain collaborative efforts aimed at improving the welfare of children nationwide.
The organisation stressed that every child deserves adequate care, protection, and opportunities needed to thrive and achieve their full potential.
“As Nigeria commemorates Children’s Day, CHR celebrates the dreams and potential of every Nigerian child and wishes them a happy Children’s Day celebration,” the statement added.
