Professor Abbas urged the new doctors to commit themselves to the nation’s development and the welfare of humanity in their professional pursuits. He also appealed to them to avoid the growing trend of emigration among professionals, colloquially known as the “Japa” syndrome.
“It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to the 7th BDS and 21st MBBS joint Induction Ceremony of Bayero University Kano,” said Professor Abbas.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the graduates for their successful completion of the program.”
He also acknowledged the support of the graduates’ families, educators, and well-wishers, emphasizing the critical need for more healthcare professionals to meet Nigeria’s national healthcare demands.

“At no other time in history has the need for commendable service to humanity been more pressing than now,” he added.
Professor Abbas expressed gratitude to the faculty of the College of Health Sciences for their voluntary contributions to the University Health Service, highlighting the fourth College Foundation Day held in January 2024 as a pivotal event for progress and fundraising for the college. Promises made during the event for new facilities, including hostels, laboratories, lecture halls, and a computer-based test center, are eagerly anticipated to enhance the college’s capacity for admitting more students in medical, dental, and allied health programs.
The Provost of BUK College of Health Sciences, Professor Aisha Kuliya Gwarzo, addressed the joint induction, marking it as the 7th BDS and 21st MBBS induction of the university. She expressed her hopes for the graduates’ future success and encouraged them to surpass their teachers in skill and knowledge.
Acknowledging the parents’ dedication, she emphasized the importance of empathy in patient care and the continuous pursuit of knowledge throughout their careers.
