The maiden edition of the Kano State Traders Football Tournament, tagged “Powerful Cup,” has officially kicked off at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano, in an initiative jointly organized by Powerful Vehicle Company and Luan.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Youth and Sports, Hon. Sani Musa Danja, said the state government is proud of initiatives that promote unity, friendship and mutual understanding among young people.
He assured that the government would continue to collaborate with the company and support efforts aimed at developing sports in the state.
According to him, competitions of this nature play a vital role in promoting social cohesion and providing opportunities for youths to showcase their talents in various fields.
The organizers explained that the tournament is exclusively for traders aged 28 years and above, adding that the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the competition will receive a brand-new electric motorcycle donated by Powerful Vehicle Company.
In his remarks, the Kano State Chairman of Powerful Vehicle Company, Jackie Chan, represented by one of the company’s leaders, Malam Muftahu Muhammad, disclosed that the market team that emerges champion will go home with the trophy and a cash prize of N500,000.
He stated that the tournament was designed to strengthen cordial relations among traders, encourage physical fitness through sports and promote unity among markets across Kano State.
The competition features football teams drawn from eight major markets in the state, including Sabon Gari, Singer, Kofar Wambai, Rimi, Wafa, Kofar Ruwa and Kwari Market. Organizers expressed optimism that the tournament would produce exciting matches before the emergence of this year’s champion.
