The Yobe State Police Command has intercepted a 28-year-old suspect found in possession of 19 cattle suspected to have been stolen, as part of its ongoing efforts to tackle cattle rustling and related crimes across the state.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkareem, the suspect, Umar Sanda of Lafiya Fulani Settlement, via Azare in Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State, was apprehended on July 31, 2026, following credible intelligence.
The statement said officers attached to the Garin Alkali Divisional Police Headquarters acted on information that the suspect was found with the cattle on the outskirts of Dumburi Village, Masaba Ward, in Bursari Local Government Area of Yobe State under suspicious circumstances.

Police operatives promptly mobilised to the location and intercepted the suspect along with the livestock.
During preliminary interrogation, Sanda claimed the cattle belonged to his brother, who resides at the same address. However, he was unable to provide satisfactory proof of ownership or explain his lawful possession of the animals.
The suspect has been taken into custody, while the 19 cattle have been secured as police commence a comprehensive investigation to establish their rightful ownership and determine whether any offence of cattle rustling or related crime has been committed.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating cattle rustling and other criminal activities across the state.
He urged livestock owners and members of the public to continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and investigation.
