Open Letter: NIN Enrollment Agents Seek First Lady’s Aid Over Unsettled Entitlements

NIN

Honorable First Lady Sen Oluremi Tinubu CON,

With utmost respect and the highest regard, we, the National Identification Number (NIN) enrollment agents, humbly reach out for your esteemed intervention concerning the prolonged non-payment of our entitlements, which has persisted for the past two years.

Our predicament with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) stems from our dedicated involvement in the NIN initiative launched by NIMC in 2021, a project of national importance conducted across the entire nation.

From January 2022 to December 2023, we have persistently submitted numerous letters of complaint to NIMC and other relevant government bodies, pleading for consideration of our dire situation. The majority of us are grappling with the financial strain of compounded interest on loans secured from banks, taken in the expectation of receiving our due payments. This financial burden is exacerbated by the current severe decline in living standards.

In alignment with President Tinubu’s agenda of renewed hope, Engr. Abisoye Cooker was appointed in August 2023 to lead NIMC with a fresh perspective. Upon her appointment, she assured us that the outstanding payments would be settled following a comprehensive revalidation process.

Furthermore, in January 2024, the Director-General of NIMC promised during a stakeholder meeting that all front-end partners (FEPs) would receive their overdue payments before the conclusion of the first quarter of 2024. Regrettably, we find ourselves in the second quarter with our payments still pending.

We earnestly appeal to your compassionate nature, as the mother of our nation, to aid us in this time of severe hardship that has befallen the majority of our colleagues.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Amina Zakari Ibrahim
