Popular Nigerian media personality and television host, Denrele Edun, has marked his 45th birthday in an unconventional way by symbolically “marrying” himself.
The entertainer shared photos and videos on his social media pages showing him dressed in a white suit, complete with a bridal veil and bouquet, as part of the celebration.
Explaining the unusual gesture, Mr Denrele said it was a reflection of self-love and a tribute to the personal journey that has shaped his life over the years.
According to him, after decades of navigating challenges, controversies, heartbreaks, reinvention and success, he has come to see himself as the greatest love story he has ever known.
“Till death didn’t do us part. So I married myself,” he wrote while celebrating the milestone birthday.
The media personality said the symbolic ceremony was not merely about celebration but about recognising every version of himself that survived difficult moments and continued to grow.
Reflecting on his life, Mr Denrele described himself as both the bride and groom, saying he was honouring the resilience, courage and determination that carried him through different stages of his journey.
“Today, I marry the only person who never left my side — me,” he said in another post.
The flamboyant entertainer added that the occasion represented a celebration of self-acceptance and personal growth, describing himself as the architect of his own “happily ever after.”
Born on June 13, 1981, Mr Denrele rose to prominence in Nigeria’s entertainment industry through his work as a television presenter and red-carpet host. He gained widespread recognition during his time with Soundcity, where his distinctive style and energetic personality made him a household name.
A graduate of University of Lagos, Mr Denrele remains one of Nigeria’s most recognisable media figures, known for his bold fashion choices and larger-than-life presence in the entertainment industry.
