The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone A, has vehemently rejected the recent increase in school fees at the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUST).

The decision was conveyed through a press release issued on Tuesday by the Zone A Coordinator, Sadi Garba Said, following extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders.

The leadership of NANS described the fee hike as unacceptable, citing the prevailing economic challenges faced by many Nigerian families. “This decision imposes an undue financial burden on parents and students, which is unjust given the current economic realities,” the statement noted.

NANS has urged the university management to reconsider the increment and engage in constructive dialogue with stakeholders, including the Student Union Government (SUG), to explore alternative funding solutions that would not exacerbate the financial struggles of students and their families.

The student body outlined key demands in their call to action: “Immediate reversal of the fee increment. Constructive engagement with stakeholders to address concerns. And exploration of alternative funding models to alleviate financial burdens on students.

“We remain resolute in our commitment to justice and equity for all students,” the release stated. The association warned that failure to address these concerns might force them to explore further measures to ensure that the voices of Nigerian students are heard and respected.

The leadership of NANS Zone A serves students across Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebi, Jigawa, Sokoto, and Zamfara States, reinforcing the significant regional impact of this issue.

Efforts to reach the university management for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
