The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says it will soon begin the second phase of enforcement against the sale of sachet alcohol and other prohibited alcoholic beverages across Nigeria.
The agency disclosed this through its Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Mr Martins Iluyomade, during a news conference in Lagos.
According to Mr Iluyomade, the first phase of enforcement targeted manufacturers and has been completed.
He said the next phase will focus on distributors, retailers and other market operators still selling banned alcoholic products.
NAFDAC began enforcing restrictions on sachet alcohol and 200ml PET bottle alcoholic drinks earlier this year as part of efforts to align Nigeria with global public health standards.
Mr Iluyomade warned that businesses found violating the regulations would face sanctions.
He also said the agency would investigate how prohibited products continue to find their way into the market despite the ban.

Beyond sachet alcohol, NAFDAC warned advertisers, online vendors and social media operators against promoting unregistered products or making unapproved health claims.
The agency stressed that all advertisements for regulated products must receive prior approval before publication.
Mr Iluyomade urged traders still stocking prohibited products to discontinue sales before enforcement operations commence.
He reiterated NAFDAC’s commitment to protecting public health through strict compliance with existing regulations.
