The International Human Rights Commission–Relief Fund Trust (IHRC-RFT), Nigeria Chapter, has urged the Federal Government to strengthen human rights protection, accountability and the rule of law following Nigeria’s reported election to the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2027–2029 term.
The commission described the development as an opportunity for Nigeria to demonstrate stronger commitment to justice, human dignity and the protection of fundamental rights.
Country Director of IHRC-RFT, Nigeria Chapter, Amb. Abdullahi Bakoji Adamu, made the call in a statement issued to journalists on Saturday.
Adamu urged the government to translate the international recognition into concrete action by addressing human rights violations, strengthening legal institutions and protecting vulnerable communities.
