Kano State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, has emphasized that meaningful political progress and sustainable development can only be achieved through unity among stakeholders and respected elders, including former Governor Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.
Garo made the statement while receiving members of the Shekarau Shura Council on a courtesy visit to his office on Thursday, where they came to congratulate him on his emergence as Deputy Governor of Kano State.
He expressed appreciation for the visit, noting that his relationship with Senator Shekarau spans many years and has been marked by mutual respect and support.
He recalled that on the day he assumed office as Deputy Governor, Shekarau personally accompanied him to his office, describing the gesture as unforgettable.
The Deputy Governor further reflected on personal moments of support from the former governor, including when he lost his elder brother. According to him, “Shekarau stood by us during the period of grief and also attended the funeral prayer to pay his last respects”
Garo commended Senator Shekarau for his enduring contributions to the development of Kano State both during and after his tenure as governor, describing his continued engagement in public affairs as valuable to the state’s progress and stability.
He assured that the present administration under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains committed to working closely with the Shekarau Shura Council to ensure the successful implementation of the “Kano First Agenda,” aimed at driving inclusive development across the state.
He further expressed confidence that members of the Shura Council would be integrated into the administration’s activities in due course, including governance engagements and political mobilization processes, stressing the importance of inclusivity.
Reaffirming the government’s stance, Garo said the administration is anchored on unity, collaboration, and partnership with key political and community stakeholders for the advancement of Kano State.
