The League of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Kano State has celebrated the state’s outstanding performance in the 2025 NECO Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), where Kano emerged as the best-performing state nationwide, with over 68,000 students securing five credits, including English and Mathematics.
In a statement jointly signed on Thursday, the CSOs credited the success to the visionary leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, commending his administration’s strong commitment to education through increased budgetary allocations, recruitment of qualified teachers, and targeted support for vulnerable learners.
However, the CSOs also expressed concern about persistent challenges in primary education, such as overcrowded classrooms, poor sanitation, and a shortage of qualified teachers, warning that these issues could undermine the sustainability of recent gains if not addressed urgently.
SolaceBase reports that the CSOs proposed six strategic recommendations to tackle these challenges. These include conducting a comprehensive infrastructure audit, hiring 25,000 qualified teachers, and strengthening school governance structures and digital monitoring systems to ensure transparency and accountability.
The League urged the Kano State Government to deepen education reforms and align policies with both national and international education standards, stressing that quality education must begin at the foundational, primary level.
The statement was endorsed by 22 civil society leaders and organizations, including:
