AOWD donates food items, clothes to over 500 vulnerable people in Kano

A Kano-based non-governmental organization, the Alkhairi Orphanage and Women Development (AOWD), has flagged off the donation of food items and clothes to over 500 people in Kano State.

Speaking at the event held on Saturday in Kano, AOWD’s Executive Director, Ruqayya Abdurrahman, emphasized that the beneficiaries included people living with disabilities, orphans, and the underprivileged.

“The rationale behind the donation is to give relief to the needy—the less privileged members of society, single mothers, and orphans—so that they will have ease in this current situation and as we are going to the end of Ramadan.”

“The donation was made possible with support from various organizations, including the former CMD Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Dr. Abdurrahman Sheshe, Tofa Gen Enterprises, Northern Nigeria Flour Mill, M.C. Plastic Nigeria LTD, Dala Food, Mado, and Inka Gen Enterprises.”

She added that AOWD’s proactive approach includes recognizing the unique struggles faced by these vulnerable groups and taking steps to alleviate their hardships.

“As Muslims, during this month, we should not only address our own hunger but also strive to share food items with those in need. Such acts of generosity are truly encouraging, particularly considering the prevailing economic difficulties.”

On his part, Lawan Husaini, the Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly, has commended AOWD for supporting the orphans and people living with disabilities.

He also urges the public to continue assisting those in need within the state. ‘I truly commend the efforts of AOWD for this generous gesture,’ he said, ‘and I encourage the general public to follow this initiative.’”

The beneficiaries thanked the NGO for coming to their aid, especially at a time when most of them were thinking of how to survive after the 30-day fast.”
