Kano State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, on Friday represented Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the turbaning ceremony of two distinguished sons of the state with traditional titles at the Emir’s Palace in Kano.
The honoured personalities were former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, A.B. Mahmud, SAN, who was turbaned as Garkuwan Kano, and former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar (Rtd), who received the title of Sarkin Fulanin Ja’idanawa Kano.
Speaking during the ceremony, the 16th Emir of Kano, Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II, congratulated the new title holders, describing the honours as recognition of their outstanding service and contributions to society.
The Emir urged them to continue promoting unity within the Dambazawa family while supporting efforts to preserve the dignity, values and sanctity of the traditional institution.
The event attracted prominent personalities from across the country, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, and the NDC vice-presidential candidate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Also in attendance were government officials, traditional rulers and other dignitaries.

In a related engagement, Deputy Governor Garo represented Governor Yusuf at the wedding solemnisation of Abdussamad Mustapha Hamza Buhari and his bride, Rabiatu Abdullahi Bayero.
Garo served as Wakili (representative) to the groom, Abdussamad, son of the Governor’s Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Hon. Mustapha Hamza Buhari, popularly known as Bakwana.
A dowry of N500,000 was paid to solemnise the marriage in accordance with Islamic tradition as family members, friends and well-wishers gathered to witness the union and offer prayers for a peaceful, prosperous and enduring marriage.
The Deputy Governor congratulated both families and prayed for Allah’s guidance, protection and abundant blessings upon the newlyweds as they begin their new life together.
