Kano Pillars Basketball Club has dedicated its latest victory in the ongoing Nigerian Basketball Premier League second phase to Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, while appealing to the state government for urgent financial support.
The team’s Manager and former head coach of Nigeria’s national basketball team, Coach Sani Ahmad, made the dedication shortly after Kano Pillars defeated City Chiefs of Abuja in Minna, Niger State, recording their fourth consecutive victory in the competition.
The Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) Premier League second phase is currently being held in two centres—Minna and Enugu—with top teams battling for places in the Final Eight scheduled for later this year.
Coach Ahmad said Kano Pillars have maintained an impressive run in the tournament, securing victories against Bauchi Nets, Gombe Bulls, Niger Potters and City Chiefs of Abuja.
According to him, the team’s performance has strengthened its chances of qualifying for the Final Eight and competing for the league title.
He noted that despite facing serious financial challenges, the players and officials have remained focused and committed to representing Kano State positively on the national stage.
“Our victories are dedicated to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his commitment to sports development in the state. The players have continued to give their best despite the difficulties confronting the team,” he said.

The team manager appealed to the Kano State Government to urgently intervene and provide the necessary financial support to enable the club achieve its objectives in the ongoing league.
He stressed that timely assistance would boost the morale of players and officials and help sustain the team’s strong performance throughout the competition.
Coach Ahmad also commended the players for their dedication, discipline and sacrifice, urging them to maintain their winning mentality and remain focused on the ultimate goal of emerging champions.
He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to continue its impressive run and bring glory to Kano State.
Kano Pillars will continue their campaign on Thursday when they take on Nike University in their fifth match of the tournament.
