The Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) has announced the University of Calabar (UNICAL) as the host of the 28th NUGA Games, scheduled to take place from November 14 to 24, 2026.
The biennial event is expected to attract about 95 universities and more than 10,000 athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and spectators from across the country, who will compete in 24 sporting events.
As preparations gather momentum, the University of Calabar has reiterated its commitment to sports development, talent discovery and the upgrading of sporting facilities.

NUGA President, Prof. Bawa Mohammed, said the Games would provide a platform to showcase emerging talents, foster national unity and advance the growth of university sports in Nigeria.
Beyond the competition, the 28th NUGA Games is expected to leave a lasting impact on student-athletes, the host community and the nation’s university sports system.
