In a bid to modernize Kano’s public transportation and reduce road congestion, the Kano State Ministry of Transportation has partnered with Stata Logistics Limited to introduce Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses. This initiative is expected to transform urban mobility while promoting environmental sustainability in the state.
Speaking during a strategic meeting, the Commissioner for Transportation, Ibrahim Namadi Dala, highlighted the state government’s commitment to improving transportation infrastructure. He noted that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf recently signed the Kano Metropolitan Agency (KAMATA) Bill into law, paving the way for increased private sector participation in the transport sector.

As part of this partnership, the Kano State Ministry of Transportation and Stata Logistics Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to commence the deployment of CNG-powered BRT buses. Namadi Dala emphasized that Stata Logistics’ proposal aligns with the state’s vision of creating a more efficient and environmentally friendly transit system.
“Kano is on track to becoming Nigeria’s second-largest city with an improved transportation system, second only to Lagos. We have engaged Stata Logistics to conduct necessary assessments and develop their plans, which will be reviewed by His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, before further implementation,” he stated.
Stata Logistics’ Director, Mr. Chuks Nwani, revealed the company’s ambitious plans to deploy 135 CNG-powered BRT buses, each capable of carrying 120 passengers. This move aims to ease urban mobility while ensuring efficiency and safety for commuters.

“Our initial investment in Kano is projected at over $25 million, with each bus costing $140,000. Additionally, we are constructing six CNG refueling stations to support operations, ensuring the sustainability of the project,” Nwani disclosed.
This partnership marks a significant step towards making Kano’s transportation system more eco-friendly, cost-effective, and modernized, ultimately enhancing the daily commuting experience for residents.
