The presiding judge on Tuesday, Ustaz Ibrahim Sarki Yola, issued this order following a petition from the complainant, who, through his counsel, Barrister Haruna Magashi, requested an investigation into the relationship between his wife, Tasleem Baba Nabegu, and Auwal Danladi Sankara.
The court accepted the petition and ordered the police to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter.
Speaking after the court session, Barrister Rabiu Shuaibu, representing the first respondent, expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, noting that his client also seeks an investigation to clear his tarnished reputation.
“The complainant brought forward his suspicion, alleging that his wife, Tasleem Baba Nabegu, is involved in an illicit affair with Auwal Danladi Sankara. We strongly refuted these claims and requested the court to direct an appropriate investigation. We also informed the court of the ongoing marital issues, including the fact that she left the marital home and returned to her parents due to her inability to continue living with him,” Shuaibu explained.

He further elaborated on the wife’s reasons for leaving, stating, “According to her, he is a drug addict, frequently beats her, and even brandishes a gun during arguments, shooting in the air. That’s why she left. If you suspect your wife of infidelity, is this the appropriate way to handle it? Islam provides clear guidance on what should be done—you divorce her. Instead of making public accusations, he should have followed proper procedures. Moreover, can a commissioner, for God’s sake, be found in an uncompleted building with a married woman from the Baba Nabegu family? It’s absurd. This is why we sought the court’s order for an investigation, which has now been granted, and we will await the police findings.”
On his part, Barrister Aliyu Usman, representing the second respondent, also refuted the allegations, stating that his client did nothing wrong.
“This accusation is merely an attempt to tarnish my client’s reputation and is politically motivated. We will await the police report after the investigation and then decide on our next steps,” Usman said.
