DREAM BIG: The Incredible Story of Dauda Abdulfatah, the Iron Man of Kogi

A 26-year-old man from Kogi State has begun the quest to break the Guinness World Record of the longest ironathon.

Dauda Abdulfatahon. is a native of Kogi State, a student of petroleum engineering at Kaduna Polytechnic. He is also a fashion designer who has always been passionate about his profession. He is known among his peers as a hard-working, resilient and courageous young man.

Abdulfatah began his quest on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Ganaja Village in Lokoja, Kogi State. This was after the Guinness World Records recognized and approved his application. With the application reference: 2306181018341ml, he received the following message: “We are pleased to inform you that your application has been accepted under the following title: longest ironing marathon”.

The Guinness Book of Records had recognized Austin Janette Hastings of Tumbarumba, New South Wales, as the first record holder for the longest ironathon in 2012. She completed 80 hours of ironing between April 1 and April 4 by pressing 1,157 clothes.

In 2015, the record was broken by Gareth Sanders, who achieved this by ironing for 100 hours from October 26 to October 30 in Bristol, UK.

In 2023, a Nigerian from Kogi State set out to break the record by embarking on a 200-hour ironing marathon. So far, he has recorded 80 hours and he is still full of energy. His aim is not just to break the record, but to rewrite history by putting Kogi and Nigeria at large on the world map. Abdulfatah, when asked why he chose 200 hours when he could break the record at 120, said: “This is not just breaking the record, I want to make history and set a mark that would be known and heard for a very long time to come, inspiring youths like me that there is no dream too big to dream, and as long as you keep working, you will get there”.

What is life without dreams anyway? When you dare to dream, dream big. This is a show of courage, mental health and physical strength, as this is going to last for eight days, and he has shown that he is up to the task.
