The Kano State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) says more than 1,000 patients benefited from its free medical outreach in Bunkure Local Government Area of the state.
The state NMA Chairman, Dr. Abubakar Nagoma Usman, disclosed this while briefing journalists on activities lined up for this year’s Physicians’ Week, which commenced on Monday.
Usman said the outreach provided medical consultations and treatment to patients, alongside the distribution of free drugs, eyeglasses and other essential healthcare services.
NMA Support Government Initiatives
He explained that the initiative was part of the association’s efforts to support government initiatives and improve access to healthcare, particularly for residents who might otherwise struggle to afford medical services.
According to him, despite the demanding schedules of medical practitioners and funding constraints, the association mobilised resources to complement government efforts in delivering healthcare services.
The NMA chairman appreciated the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Hajia Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, and the Joud Alkhairi Foundation for partnering with the association to ensure the success of the outreach.

He called on wealthy individuals, corporate organisations and governments at all levels to sustain their collaboration with the association to expand access to healthcare and achieve its objectives.
Usman also thanked individuals and organisations that contributed to the successful conduct of the outreach, assuring that the NMA would continue to support efforts to improve healthcare delivery across Kano State.
In separate remarks, the Deputy Speaker of Bunkure Local Government Area, Muktar Ahmad Auwal; the Chief Imam of Bunkure, Shuaibu Alhassan; and Alhaji Umar Ubale Musa, who represented Hajia Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, commended the association for its commitment to public health and service to humanity.
Some beneficiaries also expressed appreciation to the association for providing medical services and other forms of assistance during the outreach.
