Popular Nigerian media personality and digital content creator, Awaisu Hashimu, popularly known as Awaisu Bin Hasheem, has revealed that he once considered leaving the media industry entirely before deciding to continue despite the challenges he encountered along the way.
Speaking about his journey, Hashimu said there was a period when the difficulties surrounding his work made him question whether he should continue pursuing a career in media.
According to him, the decision to remain in the industry was not based on certainty about what the future would bring, but on his determination to keep working and give himself another opportunity to succeed.
“There was a time I planned to leave the media industry. I faced different challenges and reached a point where I thought about quitting completely. But I eventually decided to keep pushing.”
Hashimu said his decision to continue gradually changed the direction of his career as his work began receiving wider recognition and attracting a growing audience.
He explained that people often see the position a person occupies after achieving recognition without knowing the difficulties, disappointments and uncertainty that may have preceded it.
For Hashimu, the experience of nearly walking away from the industry has become an important part of his personal story.
He said the journey also taught him that the absence of immediate results does not necessarily mean that an individual’s efforts are without value.
“If I had stopped when I was thinking about quitting, I would not know where I would be today. I chose to continue, and that decision became an important part of my journey,” he said.
The media personality noted that success in the digital space can involve a long process of learning, adjustment and consistency. He said creators may sometimes have to continue developing their work even when recognition does not come immediately.
Hashimu also stressed that every stage of a person’s career comes with its own challenges. In his view, reaching a higher level should not be seen as the end of the journey, but as another stage that requires greater responsibility and continued effort.
Today, Awaisu Hashimu, popularly known as Awaisu Bin Hasheem, is recognised as one of the prominent Nigerian media personalities, having built a strong presence through digital media and content creation.
Reflecting on his experience, he said his biggest lesson was the importance of remaining committed during difficult periods.
He urged people pursuing their own goals not to make permanent decisions based solely on temporary difficulties, saying that circumstances can change with time and continued effort.
Hashimu added that his experience is a reminder that the early stages of a career may look very different from what eventually becomes possible.
“Sometimes you may be closer to a breakthrough than you realise, but because you cannot see the result yet, you may think nothing is working. That is why I believe in continuing to work, learning from every experience and improving along the way,” he said.
For Hashimu, the decision not to quit has become one of the defining moments of his journey from contemplating an exit from the media industry to becoming a recognised name within Nigeria’s digital media space.
