From Sani Gazas Chinade, Yobe
The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has called on herders and farmers across Nigeria to prioritize peaceful coexistence, protect farmlands, and respect designated grazing reserves and cattle routes as the 2026/2027 farming season begins amid economic hardship and recurring farmer-herder tensions.
In a statement signed by Khalid Muhammad Bello, national president of KACRAN, the association reiterated its commitment to peacebuilding, unity, food security, and national prosperity.
It appealed to herders nationwide to exercise restraint during grazing and migration, warning that destruction of farmlands undermines Nigeria’s food supply chain and long-term stability.
The association emphasized that open grazing routes remain essential for safe livestock movement and peaceful coexistence between pastoralists and farming communities.

KACRAN noted that insecurity continues to disrupt agriculture, displace populations, and divert national resources that could otherwise support development and food production.
The association appreciated the efforts of the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project L-PRES in Yobe State, particularly the conversion of pastoral boreholes to solar-powered systems and construction of new water facilities.
It urged increased funding from the World Bank and Yobe State Government to expand the project’s impact on livestock welfare and community health.
KACRAN also commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for reducing tractor hire costs from N100,000 to N50,000 per day and for efforts to reclaim grazing reserves.
