Dr. Hashim said the new guards—selected from communities hosting the shelterbelts—were engaged to ensure smooth accessibility to their duty posts and improve service delivery. He emphasized the critical role of shelterbelts in combating desertification, protecting farmlands, and supporting the overall prosperity of communities, the state, and the country at large.

He noted that the initiative reflects the commitment of the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to climate-action projects aimed at building a greener and more climate-resilient state.

The Commissioner encouraged the beneficiaries to serve diligently as ambassadors of the state, urging them to explore eco-friendly livelihood opportunities such as beekeeping, while also supporting the enhancement of shelterbelts by planting additional seedlings provided through the Kano Afforestation Programme (KNAP). He added that the Ministry plans to provide capacity-building training to further equip the guards for effective performance.

Earlier, the Coordinator of KNAP, Malam Abdullahi Muhammad, charged the recruits to demonstrate dedication and leave behind a positive legacy through their work.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mustapha Muhammad Faraɗaci thanked the state government for the opportunity, noting that the official issuance of appointment letters has elevated their status and strengthened their resolve to perform their duties with renewed confidence.
